Biography:

Prof. Gyana Ranjan Rout was born on December 30, 1962, in Khurda, Odisha, India. He holds a Ph.D. (1991) and D.Sc. (2001) from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. He is currently Professor & Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (Deemed to be University), Bhubaneswar.

Prof. Rout has served as Scientist and Senior Scientist at the Regional Plant Resource Centre, Odisha, and as Professor & Head of Agricultural Biotechnology at Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT). He has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of East London (UK), University of Delhi, Chiba University (Japan), and research institutes in Germany.

His research focuses on plant biotechnology, biodiversity conservation, molecular stress physiology, and environmental biotechnology.
He has received several awards, including the Samanta Chandra Sekhar Award (2005) and the Dr. Mopuri Brahmam Memorial Award (2020).
Prof. Rout is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc) and the Indian Society of Plant Genetic Resources (FISPGR).
